FRENCH MAD COW FOUND - December 23, 1997

France yesterday reported a new case of mad cow disease, the country's 31st of the bovine brain-wasting illness in the country since 1990. The disease-stricken cow, found in a herd in Brittany, was born in 1992, after a 1990 ban was imposed on cattle feed containing ground-up animal parts. The 360 cows in the herd were slaughtered on Sunday and their carcasses are to be incinerated.
